The "Chinese Proficiency Grading Standards for International Chinese Language Education" is the first standardized standard by the National Language Commission for foreign Chinese learners to comprehensively describe and evaluate their Chinese language skills and levels. The release and implementation of the "Chinese Proficiency Grading Standards for International Chinese Language Education: English Version" is an important symbol of the further improvement of the language and writing standardization system, and will provide strong support for the development of international Chinese education. The "Chinese Proficiency Grading Standards for International Chinese Language Education" was organized and developed by the Sino foreign Language Cooperation and Exchange Center of the Ministry of Education. It drew on more than 10 influential international language standards and conducted extensive research on the actual situation of international Chinese education and teaching in domestic and foreign universities, primary and secondary schools, and other types of educational institutions. It fully solicited opinions and suggestions from domestic and foreign experts and other relevant parties, and was completed after repeated argumentation and revision.
Since the Ministry of Education released the "Chinese Proficiency Grading Standards for International Chinese Language Education", HSK (Level 7-9) has received widespread attention. According to the exam plan, the world's first exam will be held on November 26, 2022. In 2023, HSK (7-9) will begin to be widely tested.
In contrast, the new "Chinese Proficiency Grading Standards for International Chinese Language Education" has significantly improved in terms of Chinese character size and vocabulary, indicating that the difficulty of the HSK exam is gradually increasing. The old version of the HSK6 level standard has been in use for nearly 10 years, and over the past decade, the number of people taking the Chinese proficiency exam has continued to increase, and the standards for measuring various language skills have also improved, reflecting the increasing international influence of Chinese language.
The new version of the "Chinese Proficiency Grading Standards for International Chinese Language Education" mainly innovates in three aspects:
1、 We have established a new system and paradigm for the "Third Class and Ninth Level" Chinese proficiency level standards, highlighting the uniqueness of Chinese language, putting learners at the center, following teaching practices, and scientifically and accurately positioning learners' Chinese proficiency levels.
2、 Proposed a new path for "3+5" standardization. Verbal communication ability, topic task content, language quantitative indicators, supplemented by five basic language skills of listening, speaking, reading, writing, and translation, combining qualitative description with quantitative indicators to accurately and detailedly depict the learner's Chinese proficiency.
3、 A four-dimensional standard system for quantifying syllables, Chinese characters, vocabulary, and grammar has been proposed. The specific and actionable quantitative indicators of each level of Chinese proficiency level standard enable countries to diversify their Chinese education with clear and evidence-based goals.
